Mauricio Pochettino playing Chelsea star in wrong position, says William Gallas

Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has some strong opinions about Chelsea’s current midfield setup under head coach Mauricio Pochettino, particularly regarding the utilization of Conor Gallagher. Gallagher, a versatile player, has been deployed in various positions throughout the season, including attacking midfield, central midfield, and defensive midfield. However, Gallas believes that Pochettino is not maximizing Gallagher’s potential by playing him out of position.

In an interview with Gambling Zone ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming match against Manchester United, Gallas emphasized the importance of understanding Gallagher’s strengths and playing him accordingly. He described Gallagher as a ball-winning midfielder with exceptional physical attributes, such as stamina and high pressing ability. Gallas argued that to get the best out of Gallagher, Pochettino needs to surround him with players who complement his style of play.

According to Gallas, Gallagher is not a traditional playmaker who excels at creating scoring opportunities with quick passes between the lines. Instead, he thrives in a role where he can disrupt the opponent’s midfield and provide defensive cover for his team. Gallas suggested that Chelsea needs a playmaker who can link up with Gallagher effectively and provide quality assists, which Gallagher himself might not excel at.

Gallas also expressed concern about the lack of synergy between Gallagher and some of his Chelsea teammates, namely Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. He argued that their playing styles do not mesh well together, indicating a broader issue with Chelsea’s transfer strategy. Gallas criticized the club’s board for what he perceives as a lack of vision and strategy in player recruitment, suggesting that they prioritize signing players without considering how they fit into the existing squad dynamics.

Overall, Gallas’s critique highlights the importance of tactical awareness and squad cohesion in achieving success on the pitch. He believes that Pochettino and the Chelsea board need to rethink their approach to team building if they want to optimize Gallagher’s contribution and improve the team’s overall performance.
