I thought ‘this isn’t the Arsenal I know’ watching them celebrate – but things have changed

### David Seaman on Arsenal’s Revival: From Frustration to Genuine Title Contenders

Arsenal legend David Seaman is thrilled to see his former club back in the hunt for the Premier League title. However, he candidly admits that he once felt frustrated watching the team settle for mediocre league finishes.

Seaman, who spent 13 glorious years with Arsenal from 1990 to 2003, winning two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three Community Shields, and a League Cup, reflects on both the highs and lows of his time with the Gunners. He moved to Manchester City and retired after the 2003/04 season, just as Arsenal completed their iconic ‘Invincibles’ season by winning the league unbeaten.

In a recent interview with Football London, Seaman shared his feelings about Arsenal’s past struggles: “I remember when we celebrated – quite a lot actually – getting top four, and I was like, ‘This is not the Arsenal I know’. Normally, if we finish fourth, it’s a bad season.”

After a two-decade-long wait without lifting the Premier League trophy, Seaman now sees Arsenal as “genuine contenders” to challenge Manchester City next season. “Yeah, we’re getting better and better. The last two seasons have been really positive; we’re now genuine contenders,” he said.

However, Seaman believes Arsenal still need to strengthen their squad to achieve greatness under Mikel Arteta. He emphasized the importance of acquiring a proven goal scorer and adding depth in key areas. “Do we need a couple of players? Yeah, I think we do,” he noted.

Seaman continued, “I still feel we could do with a striker. There are transfer rumours of different players coming in, but we need a marquee signing as in a striker, you know? A finished article.”

He also highlighted the need for cover in other positions: “Certainly, if Bukayo Saka gets injured, we haven’t got a lot of cover for him on that side. And maybe a central defender because we all saw what happened not last season but the season before when we got injuries. Players were out and it cost us, so we do need cover.”

As Arsenal aims to reclaim their place at the top, Seaman’s insights underscore the importance of strategic signings and squad depth. With the right additions, the Gunners could indeed mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title.
